Interested in sea fishing in Capbreton?

In fact, it’s a mecca for whale hunting and cod fishing.

Fishermen regularly coveted the site.

For this reason, the activities of its inhabitants revolved mainly around fishing: sailors, shipowners and merchants, even though at the time, its population only numbered between 2,000 and 3,000. However, for a small town like Capbreton, this was an imposing figure.

In its heyday, the company had its heyday, but fell into decline in 1578 following construction work on the premises.

Vacations in Capbreton

A visit to Capbreton remains a legendary experience, as the area is home to many ancient heritages. It’s precisely for this reason that the city’s population rises to 50,000 during the summer months, compared with 9,000 at other times of the year. The old port of Capbreton is the main attraction. It is the only marina in the Landes department. It offers over 990 berths for afloat vessels and around 50 for passenger vessels. The fish market is also a must when talking about Capbreton. The square offers visitors a new discovery of the marine world, as traders not only sell fish and shellfish, but also display rare seashells. The pier is the town’s emblem. It expresses Napoleon III’s renaissance of the port. Having fallen victim to the 1939 war, it was destroyed and replaced by a lighthouse in 1948. The town of Capbreton is also marked by other monuments, such as the seafront, the bell tower and the underwater canyon. Capbreton’s downtown area offers a typical yet attractive landscape. The streets in the town center and the Général de Gaulle street have their own special character and are a delight for pedestrians. The Maison du Rey and Saint-Nicolas church are also must-sees. Everything that makes up Capbreton has its own fascinating history.
