Natura 2000 sites

To date, four natural sites in the Tarnos area have been classified as Natura 2000. These are the modern dunes, the barthes, the Adour and the wetlands of the metro. The dune stretches along the Landes coast, linking Capbreton to Tarnos. Its arid landscape is home to rare species of flora and fauna over a distance of around 5 kilometers. The dune is currently one of Tarnos’ protected sites, following the discovery of 11 endemic and endangered species in the area. The barthes is an 80-kilometer stretch of wetlands on the banks of the Adour river. Once a useless marshland, the square has now become a protected living space. A few farms were built in the area in the late 18th century. Their structure has been perfectly designed to avoid the risk of flooding. The barn is located in the basilica. The first floor is used as living quarters. The metro wetland covers an area of 146 hectares and borders the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a very lively square. Many activities are organized here. It even has a committee to promote the site and the town of Tarnos in detail.

Other must-sees in Tarnos

Of course, the above-mentioned sites are exceptional and form part of the town’s natural heritage, but Tarnos also has other must-sees. The Garos pond is just one example. It is home to numerous animal and plant species, some of which are considered rare, such as carnivorous fish. Domaine de Castillon [https://www .ville-tarnos.fr/le-domaine-de-castillon] is just as eye-catching.
Built in the 18th century, it is one of the most highly regarded sites in Tarnos, thanks to its unique environment. Its 22 hectares are home to a château, lake and park. It is currently used as accommodation for summer camps and holidaymakers. It’s the ideal place to combine fishing and discovery. What’s more, the park is open all year round. For Tarnos, the Vélodyssée is a must. It offers several routes for discovering all aspects of the city by bike, including seaside resorts, beaches, neighboring towns and more. This provides a great escape and soothes the mind.
